NASHVILLE, Tenn. (3/6/18) – The University of Detroit Mercy men's tennis team powered past Tennessee State University, 7-0, on Tuesday afternoon from the Music City.
The Titans picked up the shutout with a clean sweep in doubles and singles.
Senior
Nathan Ponton and freshman
Luka Soskic teamed up for a 6-2 win at No. 1 doubles, while freshmen
Alvaro Arce and
Jenya Sirous picked up a 6-1 win at No. 2. Freshman
Gvidas Motuzas and junior
Adam Zychowicz rounded out doubles with a 6-3 win at No. 3.
In singles, Ponton cruised to a win at No. 1 with victories of 6-0 and 6-0.
Soskic picked up a 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 2, followed by a 6-2, 7-5 win from Sirous at No. 3.
Motuzas picked up a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 4, followed by a 6-0, 6-3 win by Arce at No. 5.
Zychowicz preserved the Titan shutout after bouncing back from an opening set loss with wins of 6-2 and 10-4 in extra sets at No. 6.
Detroit Mercy improves to 6-5 with the win, while Tennessee State falls to 9-6.
The Titans will look to continue the momentum during the spring break road trip, with a pair of games remaining in the Volunteer State against Austin Peay (Thurs., 12 p.m.) and Lipscomb (Fri., 10 a.m.).
