CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (2/8/18) – The University of Detroit Mercy men's tennis team powered past Austin Peay, 6-1, on Thursday afternoon from the Volunteer State.
The Titans took Nos. 1 and 2 doubles to earn the first point of the match, then dominated in singles with five wins to seal the victory.
Senior
Nathan Ponton and freshman
Luka Soskic led the way for Detroit Mercy. The pair earned a 6-3 win at No. 1 doubles, before Ponton picked up a 6-2, 6-3 win on the top singles line and Soskic earned a 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 2.
Newcomers
Jenya Sirous and
Alvaro Arce secured the doubles point with a 6-1 win at No. 2. Sirous would go on to pick up another win in singles with a 6-2, 6-3 edge at No. 3.
Gvidas Motuzas and
Adam Zychowicz won their singles matches at Nos. 4 and 6, respectively, to clinch the final two points for Detroit Mercy.
The win is the Titans' second straight and improves their record to 7-5 in 2018. Detroit Mercy will look to make it three in a row on Friday when the Titans head to Nashville for a 10 a.m. matchup with Lipscomb.
