NASHVILLE, Tenn. (3/9/18) – The University of Detroit Mercy men's tennis team suffered a 4-0 setback at Lipscomb University on Friday in the Music City.
The Bison were strong from the start, earning the doubles point and taking the first three singles decisions to seal the win at the Huston-Marsh-Griffith Tennis Center.
Lipscomb earned the doubles point by taking two of three hard fought matches. Newcomers
Alvaro Arce and
Jenya Sirous led 6-5 at No. 2, but the Bison held off the Titans from the first and third positions.
The Bison carried the momentum into singles and picked up wins at the top three courts.
Arce bounced back from a 6-4 loss in the opening set of No. 5 singles with a 6-4 win in the second, before holding a 4-0 lead in the third set as the match went unfinished.
The Titans fall to 7-6 with the loss and will look to bounce back when they return to the court with a tough road trip next weekend at Xavier (Mar. 17) and Louisville (Mar. 18).
