HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. (4/21/18) – The University of Detroit Mercy men's tennis team earned a 5-2 win on the road at Northern Kentucky in Horizon League action from the Bluegrass State.
 
The win is the third-straight for Detroit Mercy and keeps the Titans in first place in the Horizon League standings at 5-1. With the win, the Titans improve to 13-9 overall, matching the program record of 13 wins set in 1990.
 
The Titans took control of the match early, sweeping the top two doubles courts and leading on the third to take the first point. Freshman 
Luka Soskic and senior 
Nathan Ponton earned a 6-1 win at No. 2, followed by a 6-2 win at No. 1 from freshman 
Jenya Sirous and junior 
Artem Vasheshnikov.
 
Freshman 
Alvaro Arce picked up a 6-0, 6-4 win at No. 6 singles, followed by a 7-5, 6-1 win at No. 2 from Ponton.
 
Newcomer 
Gvidas Motuzas also won in straight sets at No. 5, with decisions of 6-2 and 7-5.
 
Soskic picked up the final singles win of the day for the Titans, taking No. 3 in straight sets, 6-1 and 6-4.
 
The Titans will return to action on Sunday at 1 p.m. in the regular season finale at Wright State. With a win, Detroit Mercy will clinch a regular season title and #1 seed in the Horizon League Tournament next weekend at Purdue.
