SOUTHFIELD, Mich. (4/7/18) – The University of Detroit Mercy women's tennis team was edged 4-3 by Cleveland State on Saturday night from Franklin Athletic Club.
The Titans got off to a hot start, earning the doubles point after wins on the top two lines. The Apawti sisters teamed up to earn a 6-3 win from the top court, followed by a 6-2 win from the tandem of
Pauline Van Herck and
Iris Thioux at No. 2.
The Vikings earned the point at No. 6 singles as the Titans played shorthanded, leveling the score at 1-1, before Aleksandra Golawaska picked up a win at No. 3 to give the visitors a 2-1 advantage.
Cleveland State pushed the lead to 3-1 after Isabella Spindler picked up a win at No. 1, but freshman
Chelsea Apawti cut the deficit in half with a 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 5 singles.
The Vikings, however, would earn the win after clinching the fourth point with a win at No. 4.

Jasmine Apawti won her sixth straight match, improving to 5-0 in Horizon League play with a 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 2 singles.
Cleveland State improves to 3-1 in Horizon League play with the win, while Detroit Mercy slips to 2-3.
The Titans face a tough task when they return to the court on Sunday by welcoming the first-place Penguins of Youngstown State to the Motor City. The match is set to begin at 6 p.m. from Franklin Athletic Club.
