River Forest, Ill. (9/15/18) – The University of Detroit Mercy men's tennis team turned in a solid performance on day two of the River Forest Collegiate Invitational, the Titans' first action of 2018-19.
Detroit Mercy came out strong with three doubles wins on Saturday, highlighted by
Dino Bonetta and
Gvidas Motuzas earning a title with an 8-5 win in the championship of the second flight.
Luka Soskic and
Yevhen Sirous earned a bronze showing at No. 1 doubles with a 6-4 win over UIC, while
Alvaro Arce Lopez-Sanchez and
Adam Zychowicz closed out YSU with an 8-5 win from the third flight.
In singles, Lopez-Sanchez picked up a 6-0, 6-2 win over Alexander Warstler of Marquette and advances to the championship round at No. 5 on Sunday.
The Titans suffered a few close calls but will have the chance at a handful of bronze places as Soskic, Bonetta, Motuzas and Zychowicz compete in the third-place matches of the 1st, 3rd, 4th and 6th positions, respectively.
