DETROIT (9/28/18) – The Titan women's tennis team kicked off the Detroit Mercy Invite with a strong showing in doubles as action got underway from the Titan Tennis Courts on Friday.
Formatted as a hidden dual, the Titans welcomed Bowling Green, Case Western and Oakland to the Motor City for the two-day tournament.
On a brisk opening morning, Detroit Mercy came out of the gates hot with a pair of doubles wins over the Spartans of Case Western.
Sophomores
Jasmine Apawti and
Chelsea Apawti picked up a 6-3 win on the top line of singles, while
Iris Thioux and
Ksenia Providokhina cruised in a 6-1 win from No. 3.
Providokhina added a second win for the Titans in singles, defeating Sofia Borcuti from Oakland at No. 5, 6-2 and 6-3.
The Titans return to action on day two of the invite, Saturday at 10 a.m. Detroit Mercy will square off against Oakland and Bowling Green in doubles, before closing out the weekend with a round of singles against Case Western.
