CHICAGO (3/10/19) – The University of Detroit Mercy women's tennis team dropped a 5-2 decision at Chicago State on Sunday morning in the Windy City.
Chicago State earned the doubles point with a pair of tight victories on the top two courts, despite a strong win from
Ksenia Providokhina and
Sara Mitrakovic at No. 3.
Sophomore
Jasmine Apawti earned a win in straight sets at No. 1 singles to lead the way for the Titans, earning the win with scores of 6-4 and 6-3.
Pauline Van Herck bounced back from a 6-3 loss in the opening set to take No. 6 singles 6-4 and 10-8.
The Cougars would go on to take the match with three singles wins.
Providokhina picked up a 6-2 win in the opening set, but fell in the second and was outlasted 7-5 in the third. The loss is her first dropped point of spring break, where she went 7-1 between doubles and singles.
The Titans fall to 7-5 with the loss, while Chicago State improves to 3-2.
Detroit Mercy returns to action in two weeks as the Titans kick off Horizon League play at UIC (Mar. 23) and IUPUI (Mar. 24).
