Titans Fall in Road Battle at Oakland

BLOOMFIELD, Mich. (4/13/19) – The University of Detroit Mercy women's tennis team was tripped up in a 6-1 loss at rival Oakland University on Saturday afternoon in Metro Series action from Bloomfield Tennis and Fitness.
 
The Titans fell behind early as the Golden Grizzlies jumped ahead with the doubles point and could not climb out of the hole in singles.
 
Ksenia Providokhina picked up a big win at No. 4 singles, rallying from a 2-6 defeat in the opening set to win 6-1 and 6-4 to earn the win for the Titans.
 
Pauline Van Herck opened No. 5 singles with a 6-3 win, but was edged in the second 7-6 to send the match to a third frame. Sofia Borcuti outlasted Van Herck to pick up the point for Oakland.
 
After falling in the opening set 6-2, Chelsea Apawti bounced back with a 6-4 win in the second at No. 3 singles. Dasha Artamonova edged Apawti 10-8 in a grueling final frame to secure the win for the Golden Grizzlies.
 
Oakland improves to 11-8 overall and 5-2 in league play with the victory, while the Titans fall to 9-10 and 2-5, respectively.
 
Detroit Mercy will look to bounce back next weekend as the Titans host NKU and Wright State on Friday and Saturday.
