CHESTERTON, Ind. (9/17/2019) -- It was an impressive day out on the links for the University of Detroit Mercy men's golf team as the Titans had three players shoot under par en route to tallying their best team round since 2013 in the final round of Valparaiso's Crusader Collegiate.
The event was held at the par 72, 6,972-yard Sand Creek Country Club in Chesterton, Indiana.
Detroit Mercy carded a 283 - tied for the third-best round of the day and the fifth-best round in the tournament - to finish in a share of 10th with a 901 (306-312-283). The 283 was the best round by the Titans since tallying a 283 in the second round of the Cleveland State Invitational in 2013.
Sophomore
Anthony Occhiuto led the way on the final 18 by tying his career low with a 4-under 68. He knocked in six birdies with 10 pars and was on fire from the start going 4-under in his first nine holes and 5-under through 12 as he finished tied for 51st with a 228 (77-83-68).
Senior
Zack Tenerowicz was also under par with a 1-under 71 as he shared 16th overall with a 217 (72-74-71), recording five birdies and playing his last 11 holes at 4-under, while senior
Scott Sparks carded a 3-under 69 in the final round to tie for 22nd with a 219 (77-73-69) as he put in six birdies, including five on the front nine.
Detroit Mercy will be back in action next week, Sept. 23-24, when the Titans travel to Kentucky for the NKU Collegiate classic.
