DETROIT (2/26/2020) – The University of Detroit Mercy men's track and field team journeys to the campus of Youngstown State for a chance to compete in the 2020 Horizon League Indoor Track & Field Championship meet from the Watson and Tressel Training Site (WATTS) from Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 29-March 1.
Senior distance runner
James McCann won first place in the mile run in the Titans' last indoor meet with a time of 4:13.48 – a little more than a tenth shy of
Ben Kendell's time of 4:13.31, good for third in school history.
Junior
Dash Dobar placed second in the 200-meter dash with a time of 1:22.98 and
Zachary Zaborney placed second in the triple jump with a score of 12.52m at Michigan's Silverston Invitational.
The 4x400 meter relay team finished second and fourth in the first heat and
Jacob Spiaser's score of 4.23m was good for third in the pole vault. Junior sprinter
Bonanza Cummings will look to pick up where he left off in Ann Arbor as he recorded a third-place finish for the red, white and blue in the 60m with a time of 7.00.
The Titans placed seventh in last year's Horizon League Indoor Track & Field Championships. Detroit Mercy has won the indoor track and field championships on two occasions (1996, 2000) and finished runner-up at the indoor meet four other times (1995, 1997, 2001, 2011) and most recently in 2011.
Youngstown State won both the men's and women's indoor track and field titles last year in the Horizon League.
