Ariel Chang was on fire on her back nine, moving her to another top-five effort and the University of Detroit Mercy took 10 strokes off its first-round score as the Titans ended the fall season taking fifth at the Dayton Fall Invitational on Tuesday.
The Titans totaled a 303 on the day to post a 616 (313-303), just nine strokes out of the top three at the par 70, 5,968-yard NCR Country Club's North Course.
Chang carded a season-low 1-under 69 to earn fourth with a 145 (76-69), just three shots shy of second place. It was her third top-five finish in the four fall events with her other tournament ending in a share of ninth.
She was three over on the front nine with just one birdie and four pars, but then heated on tallying five birdies and three pars in her final nine holes. She would end up leading the tournament with nine pars, while placing third on the par 4's with a +4, 4.17 average and tied for third on the par 3's with a +1, 3.13 average.

Kendall Payne registered a 76 and tied for 11th overall with a 150 (74-76), her third-straight top-20 performance. She had a birdie with 10 pars in her final 18 and led the team with 24 pars, fifth-most in the field.

Alexa Hatz shared 49th with a 160 (83-77) as she recorded a birdie and 10 pars, while senior
Shana Murphy tied for 51st with a 161 (80-81).
The Titans concluded their fall season and will now practice as they get ready for the championship spring campaign.
