ROCHESTER, Mich. (4/10/22) - Senior
Taryn Peru hit 3-for-7 overall recording two RBI with a run scored while Senior
Piper Roth also went 3-for-7 with an RBI as Detroit Mercy dropped a pair of 7-2 decisions in Metro Series doubleheader action at arch-rival Oakland on Sunday afternoon.
Senior
Taylor Gauthier also posted three total hits including going 2-for-4 in game one. Junior
Jordyn Chapman added a pair of hits going 1-for-3 in each game.
Freshman
Chloe Spitzer got the start in game one recording two strikeouts going 6.0 innings. Graduate student
Liz Murphy tossed 6.0 innings in game two allowing only three earned runs.
Game 1:
• Oakland (12-8, 7-0 HL) took a 1-0 lead off a RBI double in the first inning
• Chapman got Detroit Mercy's (1-25, 1-12 HL) first hit of the game in the second inning
• The Titans got the bases loaded in the top of the third inning. The Golden Grizzlies thought they had turned a double play off the bat of Paver but head coach
Marc Gillis challenged the play at first base and the call was overturned and she was ruled safe.
After Tanguay was hit by a pitch to load the bases, Peru reached on a fielder's choice to score Paver to tie the game at 1-1.
• The Golden Grizzlies add three runs (one unearned) in the bottom of the third inning to retake the lead at 4-1.
• Roth singled to left center field to score Paver pulling the Titans within two runs at 4-2
• Oakland added three runs in the sixth inning off a RBI single and two-run homer to take a 7-2 advantage for the eventual win
• The Titans left 10 runners on base
Game 2:
• Detroit Mercy got on the board first off an RBI single from Peru to score Gauthier. Roth then dropped down a bunt single that Peru was able to score off a throwing error from the catcher giving the Titans a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning.
• Oakland plated four runs (three unearned) on two hits to take the lead at 4-2 in the bottom of the third
• The Golden Grizzlies extended the lead to 6-2 off two-run homer in the fourth inning
• Oakland added their fourth unearned run of the game in the sixth inning to secure the series sweep
Detroit Mercy heads to Bowling Green for a non-conference game and on Tuesday, Apr. 12 at 5 p.m.
