NORMAN, Okla. (7/22/2022) -- The University of Detroit Mercy men's golf team posted the highest team GPA out of all the Titan teams and today, three golfers took home the highest academic accolades in Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholars.

Alek Mauro were honored with the academic laurels, all for the first time in their careers.Â
To be eligible for Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar nomination, an individual must be a sophomore, junior or senior both academically and athletically in NCAA Division I, II, III, and NAIA, or receiving their Associate's Degree and in their last year of athletic eligibility in the NJCAA. In addition, they must participate in 50 percent of their team's competitive rounds, have a stroke average under 76.0 in NCAA Division I, under 78.0 in NCAA Division II, under 79.0 in NCAA Division III, under 78.0 in NAIA, and under 77.0 in NJCAA, and maintain a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at his college or university.
Hill - who was also selected to the Horizon League All-Academic Team with a 3.93 GPA as a Finance major - wrapped up a great Titan career by leading the team in scoring average at 74.00, tied for 10th in school history. He had five top-20 efforts, three top-10 finishes and a win as he ended his career 14th in school history with a 75.86 average.
Occhiuto - a Marketing major with a 3.27 GPA - was second on the team with a 74.67 average in 12 rounds out on the links as 11 of his 12 rounds were in the 70's or 60's. He posted three top-20 finishes and ended his Titan career with a 75.16 average, tied for seventh in school history.
Mauro - who holds a 3.80 GPA in Business - was third on the team with a 75.57 average as he registered a pair of top-20 finishes. He tallied 21 of his 23 rounds in the 70's or 60's with a career-best 2-under 69 at the Derek Dolenc Invitational and a career-best 144 (74-70) for 13th at the Tom Tontimonia Invitational.
A total of 440 NCAA Division I athletes from 157 schools were honored for their dedication in the classroom and out on the links this season.
