Nalluri, Sokolowski Earn All-American Scholar Honors From GCAA

Mason Sokolowski (L) and Gowtham Nalluri (R) were honored for their academic and athletic resume.
NORMAN, Okla. (8/3/2025) -- The University of Detroit Mercy men's golf team saw a pair of juniors honored for their work on the course and with the books as juniors Gowtham Nalluri and Mason Sokolowski were tabbed Cobalt Golf All-America Scholars by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA).

Both were named to the prestigious academic list for the second-straight year.

To be eligible for Cobalt Golf All-America Scholar nomination, an individual must be a sophomore, junior or senior both academically and athletically in NCAA Division I, II, III, and NAIA, or receiving their associate's degree and in their last year of athletic eligibility in the NJCAA. In addition, they must participate in 50% of their team's competitive rounds, have a stroke average under 76.0 in NCAA Division I, and maintain a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at their college or university.

Since the award's inception in the mid 2000's, 17 Titans have earned the academic recognition, while the pair become the eighth and ninth in school history to tally the distinction twice.

Nalluri started all eight events he saw action in and was third on the team with a 75.83 average, carding 19 of his 23 rounds in the 70's. He just missed All-Tournament honors by tying for seventh with a 220 (74-71-75) at the Horizon League Championship.

Sokolowski was in the starting line-up in all nine tournaments and was second on the team with a 75.04 average, shooting in the 70's or 60's in 20 of his 26 rounds, with a pair of top 20 efforts. He tallied a 215 (68-72-75) for his first career top-10 finish, tying for fourth at the NKU Jewell Invitational.

Nalluri and Sokolowski were also two of 24 student-athletes from the Horizon League to earn the accolade.
