DETROIT (9/10/2022) -- The University of Detroit Mercy women's golf team will open the fall season in some enemy territory as the Titans compete in Youngstown State's Roseann Schwartz Invitational.
The two-day, two-round event will start with 18 on Monday, Sept. 12, and the final round on Tuesday at the par 72, 6,088-yard Mill Creek Golf North Course in Boardman, Ohio.
Monday's round will begin with tee times starting at 7:50 a.m., while Tuesday will have a shotgun start at 9:00 a.m. Fans can follow all the action with BirdieFore by clicking here.
The Titans will face host YSU, Ashland, Bellarmine, Cleveland State, Glenville State, Malone, Mount St. Mary's, Saint Francis and Walsh.
The Titans took part in the event last year and tied for fourth with a 618 (306-312) as then-freshman
Ariel Chang tallied her first top-five finish placing fourth with a 147 (73-74), just one shot off the lead.
Detroit Mercy lost four key seniors off last year's squad, but bring back four letter winners to go with two freshmen. The team is also led by new coach
Jordan McArleton, who took over as Director of Golf for both the men's and women's programs with Lindsey Lammers moving to Assistant Director of Golf.
The team is highlighted by the return of Chang, who had one of the most impressive starts to a collegiate career posting a 74.0 average starting all four fall events until an injury kept her out of the spring campaign. She had four top-10 efforts and three top-five finishes in the fall season.
Two seniors return to the team in
Sydney Bradford and
Shae Zydeck. Bradford started six events and tallied an 83.6 average in 14 rounds, registering career lows for a round, 36 holes and 54 holes last season. Zydeck saw action in eight events on the year and tallied an 85.0 average in 17 rounds, tying for 33rd at the Golden Grizzly Invitational with a 164, ending with a career-low 77 in round two.
Junior
Sophia Ubaydi is also back after playing in seven events and had an 85.62 average in 13 rounds in her first year of collegiate golf.
The two newcomers to this season who will look to make their claim for a starting spot are
Kyla Charlebois and
Taylor Kondel. Charlebois had a fine prep career in Canada, while Kondel was a standout at Grand Blanc High School.
Final results for each day will be posted when the round is over.
