DETROIT (3/28/2025) -- The University of Detroit Mercy men's golf team will finally hit the tees in the spring season as the Titans compete in Butler's Don Benbow Spring Invitational.
The two-day, 54-hole event will start with 36 holes on Monday, Mar. 31, and conclude on Tuesday at the par 70, 6,551-yard Highland Golf and Country Club in Indianapolis, Indiana.Â
Detroit Mercy will battle the host Bulldogs, Bradley, Cleveland State, DePaul, Evansville, Green Bay, IU Indy, Indian Hills, Loyola, Purdue Fort Wayne, Oakland, and Youngstown State, while Ball State, Indiana and Miami (Ohio) will have individuals.Â
This is the fourth straight year and the fifth time that the Titans will play in the event. The first time in 2019, UDM was eighth with a 613 (310-303), while in 2022, Detroit Mercy shared fourth with a 581 (292-289) and had the individual winner in
James Hill as he tied for first carding a 139 (69-70) and was deemed the medalists in a scorecard playoff.Â
In the fall, the Titans played in five tournaments and tallied a 295.1 team average. Sophomore
David Swab led the squad with a 73.08 average and won the Tom Tontimonia Invite by shooting a career-best 165 (69-66).Â
Senior
Marko Banic was second in average with a 73.4, recording scores in the 70's in all 13 rounds, while sophomores
Mason Sokolowski and
Gowtham Nalluri were third and fourth, respectively, with a 74.77 and a 74.85.
