Liv Peterson delivered a clutch walk-off single to score freshman
Allison Fluker, giving Detroit Mercy a 1-0 win over arch-rival Oakland in the first leg of doubleheader action on Wednesday afternoon at Buysse Ballpark. It marked the first time the Titans secured two Metro Series wins over the Golden Grizzlies since the 2019 season. Peterson hit 2-for-2 overall with a double coming off the bench. Freshman
Erin Flynn was lights out in the circle going the distance, tossing 8.0 scoreless innings with five strikeouts, picking up her third win of the season.
UDM (7-23, 4-8 HL) came up short going for the sweep in the nightcap falling 7-4.

Wendy Ketola also hit 2-for-3. Freshman
Madeline Hallman also recorded a hit in both games with a pair of runs scored.
Peterson also hit 2-for-4 with an RBI in game two while sophomore
Jada Davis also went 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored. Freshman
Abby Klaft hit 2-for-3 with an RBI while senior
Jordan Kavanagh added an RBI.
Game 1 Recap:
• Both teams had trouble mounting any offense against the solid pitching over the first seven innings.
• Oakland (11-20, 4-8 HL) got runners on second and third in the eighth inning but Flynn got the last batter to pop out ending the threat and setting the stage for the bottom of the eight.
• Fluker hit a lead-off single followed by a bunt single from Ketola. Freshman
Paige Keown dropped down a sac bunt moving the runners over to second and third base. Peterson stepped up and hit a missile to third base that went right off the third baseman scoring Fluker for the walk-off win.
Game 2 Recap:
• UDM took a 1-0 lead in the first inning off a sac fly from Klaft to score Hallman
• Oakland took a 2-1 lead with a run in the second and third innings
• The Golden Grizzles added three more in the fifth to lead 5-1.
• The Titans bounced back with three runs of their own in the bottom half, scoring off an error followed by an RBI single from Peterson and a sac fly from Kavanagh to trail 5-4.
• OU took advantage of an error getting two unearned runs off an RBI single in the top of the seventh to move ahead 7-4.
• UDM managed to get runners on second and third in the bottom half with two outs. After Kavanagh battled at the plate getting the count full before hitting a shot to center field but the game-tying home run bid didn't have the distance.
Detroit Mercy hits the road for a #HLSB series at Robert Morris starting on Saturday, Apr. 12. at 1 p.m.
