INDIANAPOLIS (2/3/2026) -- After breaking a 23-year-old school record, University of Detroit Mercy track and field freshman
Joey DeCasas was named the Athlete of the Week.
DeCasas tallied a big win and school record at Notre Dame's Meyo Invitational, breaking the school's long jump record with a leap of 7.58 meters.
The run is currently ranked in the top 40 in the nation.
He is the first Titan to win the field award since
Colin Cashner won with a hammer throw in 2015, and the first to win it in the indoor campaign since fellow long jumper
Ja'Quan Patterson in 2013.
In four meets so far as a rookie, he has two wins in the long jump, as well as a runner-up performance in the long jump and triple jump.
DeCasas and the Titans will be back in action this weekend, with the team set to split for the Windsor Team Challenge and the Michigan Invitational.
