School & Rookie Records Set Along With Six Wins In Action-Packed Saturday

Senior Joshua Otten broke the school record in the 1,500 meters.
DETROIT (4/11/2026) -- The University of Detroit Mercy men's track and field team saw a couple of records shattered, a few performances put in the top 10, and came away with six gold-medal efforts on Saturday as the Titans competed in a pair of meets.

Senior Joshua Otten broke the school's 1,500-meter record at the Bucknell Bison Outdoor Classic, posting a time of 3:49.56 for 27th place. He leaped over Corey Stedman's 3:50.98 run in 1999, as well as current head coach Guy Murray's time of 3:52.21 in 1989.

Freshman Colin Murray set a rookie record by taking 11th in the 5,000m at Bucknell, clocking 14:20.28 for second in school history, while junior placed 49th in a career-best 14:44.05 for fifth in the record book. Junior Christopher Russelburg also set a PR in Pennsylvania, taking 31st in the 10,000m in 30:34.64, third in Titan history.

Junior Mike Ferguson won his first individual collegiate event, taking the 400m in a career-low 49.92, just ahead of freshmen Kwaku Awuah's 50.42 and Luke Hansen's 50.46, PRs for those rookies.

Freshman Isaiah Fox led a 1-2 finish in the 100-meter hurdles as he posted a 15.16, and freshman Weston Glei a 15.30.

Freshman Joey DeCasas helped the Titans finish one through four in the long jump as he claimed the event with a mark of 6.92 meters. Fox was second in 6.85m, freshman Nickolas Henson third at 6.50m, and Glei fourth with a leap of 6.39m.

Henson came back to win the triple jump with a mark of 12.83m, while freshman Deon Robertson had the victorious height of 1.98m in the high jump.

The last win saw the quartet of Fox, sophomore Andrew Drakos, and freshman Lachlan Tillotson and Tristan Crooks win the 4x400 meter relay in a time of 3:33.14

The Titans will be back in action next week at Oakland's Elaine Leigh Invitational.
