DETROIT (4-25-26) - For the fourth time this season, freshman
Savannah Schultz recorded a career second-best seven strikeouts in 6.0 innings of work as Detroit Mercy came up short in a pitcher's duel in the #HLSB series finale at Northern Kentucky on Saturday afternoon at the Frank Ignatius Grein Softball Field.
Junior
Liv Peterson went 2-for-3 with a double, stolen base, and a run scored, while junior
Claire Borg hit 1-for-2, as the duo accounted for all three Detroit Mercy (14-27, 6-9 HL) hits against NKU pitcher Makaree Chapman.
Recap:
• NKU got the bases loaded with one out in the bottom of the second inning, but Schultz came up clutch, getting out of the big jam, leaving the bases juiced.
• After Peterson's double in the top of the fourth inning, she stole third as the catcher's throw went past the third baseman, allowing her to score and giving the Titans a 1-0 lead.
• The Norse came right back and tied the game at 1-1 off a sac fly in the bottom of the fourth.
In the top of the sixth, the Titans got runners on first and second as senior
Trinity Fessler was hit by a pitch, followed by a single from Peterson. However, Schultz lined out into a double play at second base. Peterson was then thrown out, caught stealing to end the threat.
• NKU took the lead for good with an RBI single in the bottom of the sixth inning.
