DeCasas Wins Long Jump Title At Day Two Of #HLTF Championships

Freshman Joey DeCasas is king of the high jump at the #HLTF Outdoor Championships.

ROCHESTER HILLS, Mich. (5/9/2026) -- Freshman Joey DeCasas took gold and tied a school record in the process as the University of Detroit Mercy men's track and field team competed in the second day of the Horizon League Outdoor Track & Field Championships.

Detroit Mercy now has 23 points for fifth place, just 13 points outside the top three, at the league showdown hosted by Oakland.

DeCasas won the long jump with a leap of 7.49 meters, tying Angelo Finnie's school record from 2003 and now standing in the top 50 in the NCAA East Region.

Joining him in earning points in the long jump was freshman Nickolas Henson, who claimed eighth with a mark of 6.76m.

Freshman Weston Glei earned third in the decathlon with 5,844 points, a rookie record as well as second in school history. His top finish on the day was second in the hurdles after he won the high jump on day one. Junior Joshua Neary also registered points in the event, finishing seventh with 5,446, including third in the 1,500 meters.

The Titans also had a few athletes move into the championship round.

Senior Jaden McKenzie qualified for the 200 and 400 meters, earning a top four in the prelims in both events.

Freshman Isaiah Fox was seventh in the 400-meter hurdles at 57.11, and just missed qualifying in the 110mH, taking ninth in 14.74. Freshman Micah Chaney moved into the 100m championships after placing sixth in 10.93 as well as in the 200m, posting a prelim time of 22.30 for seventh.

The final day of the #HLTF Championships will start at 10:00 a.m. tomorrow.
