Men's Golf Set To Open Season This Weekend

Senior Ethan Oblak and the Titans will open the season this weekend.

DETROIT (8/27/2026) -- The University of Detroit Mercy men's golf team will begin the 2026 fall campaign in Ohio as the Titans compete in the Virtues Intercollegiate.

The two-round event, co-hosted by Miami and Bowling Green, will be held at the par-72, 7,243-yard Virtues Golf Club in Nashport, Ohio. The first two rounds will be held on Saturday, Aug. 29, with the final 18 on Sunday.

The field will feature the host Falcons and RedHawks, Cleveland State, Evansville, Loyola Chicago, Marshall, Michigan, NIU, Richmond, Robert Morris, and Wright State.

Last year, Detroit Mercy finished 13th with a 919 (308-304-307). Senior David Swab led the way, shooting a 228 (74-74-80) for 52nd, while senior Gowtham Nalluri was 56th with a 229 (77-77-75).

The Titans will have a veteran team with five seniors and seven upperclassmen on their 10-man roster, five of last season's top six scorers, and three who rank in the top 15 in scoring average.

Senior Mason Sokolowski, Nalluri, and Swab have combined to play in nearly every event since they stepped foot on campus.

"We have four seniors who have oodles of experience, and I have high expectations for all of them," said head coach Jordan McArleton. "They have already seen a number of the courses we are playing, and they are ready to get to work."

Sokolowski is currently sixth in Titan history with a 75.11 average and was second on the team with a 75.04 average last year, posting a pair of top-20 efforts and leading the team twice, while finishing in the top three in six events.

Nalluri was second on the team with a 75.83 average and is 13th in school history with a 75.32 mark. He ranked third on the team with a 75.83 average last season and just missed All-Tournament honors by tying for seventh with a 220 (74-71-75) at the Horizon League Championship.

Swab is 11th in the Titan record book with a 75.20 average and finished fifth on the squad with a 76.35 average, leading the team in two tournaments.

Sophomore Peyton Lawley is back and played 18 rounds as a rookie, where he was fourth with a 76.11 average and shot in the 70's in 14 of his 18 rounds, while senior Ethan Oblak returns and was sixth last year at a 76.54, posting 70's in 22 of his 26 rounds and top three on the team in five events.

Graduate senior Vincent Levesque brings a lot of experience, while two juniors, Harshan Juttu and Ryan Kruschka, and sophomore Spencer Shearer have all senior action in their careers. Freshman Christian Helzer also had a stellar prep career and will look to crack the rotation.

"With this team, spots are going to be hard to get. Iron sharpens iron, and we have a lot of talent and a lot of depth, so when we go through qualifying, that challenge is going to really strengthen our program," added Jordan McArleton.
