Junior Pjotrs Necajevs (Riga, Latvia/Herdera Vidusskola) finally saw his 13-match winning streak come to an end as the Titan netter dropped a 6-1, 6-3 decision to Ohio State's Balazas Novak in the opening round of the main draw at the ITA Midwest Regional.

Necajevs was one of only two Horizon League players in the main draw. He closed out the fall season at 13-1 in singles and 6-5 in doubles action. He won three singles flight titles and was named the Horizon League Player of the Week on two occasions.

As for the men's tennis team, which is in its first year as a varsity program after being discontinued in 1995, the Titans made a statement in the fall by posting a .540 winning percentage in singles taking 34 of 63 matches. Besides Necajevs' three flight titles, junior Patrick Troy (Beverly Hills, MI/Brother Rice) and freshman Dustin Goldenberg (West Bloomfield, MI/West Bloomfield) each captured a flight championship on the year at the Detroit Titan Fall Invitational, while freshman Nick Tolomei (Rochester Hills, MI/Adams) took home consolation honors at the Valpo Fall Classic.

In doubles, Detroit finished the fall campaign at 14-13 with Tolomei and Troy securing the only flight title at the home fall invitational. That duo went on to reach the championship match of the Flight D bracket at the 30th Annual Ball State Fall Invite. Necajevs and Goldenberg also had their moments together reaching the finals of the Flight A bracket at Ball State. On their way to the championship match, the Titan tandem upset Purdue's No. 1 doubles team, and top seeded team in the tournament. The UDM pair also eliminated Louisville's Adam Donaldson and Tim Barnoud in the first round of the midwest regional.
