The UDM men's tennis team dropped just three sets on the day as the Titans rolled to a 7-0 victory over Chicago State in a non-conference match-up on Friday night at the Franklin Athletic Club. With the win, Detroit moved to 2-4 on the year as well as 2-0 in home matches.
Detroit started the night by taking the doubles point thanks to an 8-5 win at No. 1 by junior
Pjotrs Necajevs (Riga, Latvia/Herdera Vidusskola) and freshman
Dustin Goldenberg (Bloomfield Hills, MI/West Bloomfield). Chicago State forfeited a doubles match at No. 3 giving UDM the early advantage.
The Titans then dominated the singles' round starting with a clean two-set sweep by freshman
Nick Tolomei (Rochester, MI/Adams) at No. 5, 6-0,6-0. Necajevs won his bout at No. 1, 6-0, 6-1, while Goldenberg claimed a 6-3, 6-3, triumph at the No. 2 slot.
Junior
Patrick Troy (Beverly Hills, MI/Brother Rice) rebounded after dropping his first set, 3-6, to take the next two, 6-4, 10-2, at the No. 3 position, while freshman
David Stabley (Utica, MI/Eisenhower) posted his first win of the season at No. 4, 6-2, 4-6, 10-8.
The Titans will look to remain perfect at home when Detroit welcomes in-state foe Wayne State into the Franklin Athletic Club on Sunday. Match time is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
