Necajevs Posts 4-0 Weekend As Men’s Tennis Drops First Road Match

Box Score

Senior Pjotrs Necajevs (Riga, Latvia/Herdera Vidusskola) won his fourth straight match in sweeping fashion as the UDM men's tennis team battled Western Michigan to a 5-2 setback on Sunday evening.

Necajevs won both his singles and doubles matches at No. 1 against the Broncos to finish up at 4-0 on the weekend. He teamed with freshman Alex Latosinsky (Sarnia, ON/St. Christopher's) for an 8-2 triumph over Kazuya Komada and Zeyad Montasser and then came back to down Komada, 6-1, 6-4. Necajevs also went 2-0 in Friday's 5-2 win over IPFW.

Latosinsky also garnered a singles victory at No. 3, coming from behind to win a tie breaker in the third set, 10-7. He dropped his first set 6-2, and evened the match with a 6-4 score in the second.

The Titans (1-2) started the day looking like they would steal the doubles point on the road as Necajevs and Latosinsky quickly won their match, but it was all even after UDM faltered at No. 3. That put the doubles point in the hands of the No. 2 duos as senior Patrick Troy (Beverly Hills, MI/Brother Rice) and sophomore Nick Tolomei (Rochester, MI/Adams) went the distance and more before a late WMU run saw the home team of Casey Cullen and Pablo Olivarez take the match, 9-7.

Detroit then took two singles matches against a squad that earlier in the day defeated No. 74 DePaul.

The Titans will get set for another pair of matches on the road as Detroit plays Northern Illinois on Friday and Michigan State on Saturday in East Lansing.
