Box Score
Senior
Pjotrs Necajevs (Riga, Latvia/Herdera Vidusskola) and freshman
Chris Cheung (Mississauga, ON/Erindale Secondary) came up with singles victories, but a late Northern Illinois rally in the final match proved to be the difference as Detroit dropped a narrow 4-3 decision on Friday at the Michigan State Indoor Tennis Facility.
The Titans (1-3) opened by taking the doubles point as Necajevs and freshman
Alex Latosinsky (Sarnia, ON/St. Christopher's) teamed for an 8-2 win at No. 1, while senior
Patrick Troy (Beverly Hills, MI/Brother Rice) and sophomore
Nick Tolomei (Rochester, MI/Adams) held off their opponent, 8-6 in the second slot.
Necajevs would tally another triumph with a 6-4, 6-2 score over Maksym Bartiuk at the top position and Cheung earned the same score victory over Greg Czajkowski at No. 6.
With the match tied at three, it came down to the fifth singles and Tolomei battled but lost in a tiebreak 7-6 (3) in the first set before falling 6-2 in the second.
Detroit will complete its two day stay in East Lansing tomorrow when the Titans play Michigan State. That match is set to begin at 4:00 p.m.
