The UDM men's tennis team won its third straight match on Friday as the Titans took out Metro Detroit rival Wayne State, 6-1, on Friday night at the Franklin Athletic Club.
The win evened Detroit's record to 4-4 on the season.
UDM started the night by taking the top two doubles matches. Senior
Pjotrs Necajevs (Riga, Latvia/Herdera Vidusskola) and freshman
Alex Latosinsky (Sarnia, ON/St. Christopher's) won at No. 1, 8-1, while senior
Patrick Troy (Beverly Hills, MI/Brother Rice) and freshman
Cesar Escobar Serrano (Merliot, El Salvador/Educame) claimed No. 2 with an 8-4 decision.
The Titans than rocked the Warriors in singles winning five of the six bouts, four in straight sets. Necajevs won his match at the top position, 6-2, 6-4, to run his singles record to 20-2 on the season. He has won eight straight singles matches and 18 in a row in dual play dating back to last season.
Latosinsky won his match at No. 2, 6-2, 6-1, while Troy was victorious at the third spot 6-2, 6-1. Serrano dominated his opponent 6-3, 6-2, and sophomore
Nick Tolomei (Rochester, MI/Adams) picked up a come from behind win at No. 5 taking the last two sets 6-3, 10-7 after dropping the first, 6-1.
Head coach
Grant Asher also announced that Sunday's match at Chicago State has been postponed with no make-up date scheduled yet. Detroit will now have an extra week off before the Titans travel to Ball State on Saturday, Feb. 27.
