DETROIT -- The Detroit Titans women's tennis team will head to Fort Wayne, IN this weekend for a pair of matches. Friday at 7:00 p.m. will see the Titans take on IPFW while Saturday at 7:00 p.m. will feature a second Detroit match, this time with Chicago State, to also be played at IPFW on neutral ground.
The Titans (0-5) have been held out of the win column in the early part of the 2012 dual-match season. The team was last in action on Saturday at Michigan State as the Spartans scored a 6-1 victory. In that contest, sophomore
Chloe Karoub secured for her first collegiate victory playing at the No. 1 singles position.
At No. 1 singles, Karoub fell in the first set but came back to win the second set by a 6-4 score. Karoub took home the win with a third set tiebreaker victory by an 11-9 margin.
IPFW (6-5) comes in having won two straight and three of its last four. The two wins came in a doubleheader on Saturday as the Mastodons took down Green Bay from the Horizon League with a 4-3 victory and then had a second 4-3 win in the match prior to Green Bay defeating Eastern Illinois.
The Mastodons have played two ITA ranked teams this year but have been shut out in both contests. They played at the now No. 23 ranked Notre Dame team and hosted the No 73 ranked DePaul Blue Demons in Fort Wayne to open the dual-match season.
The Chicago State Cougars (1-8) are trying to shake a six match losing streak last playing on Sunday at Northern Iowa and falling 5-2. The lone win of the dual-match season came in the team's third match of the year against Bradley as the Cougars managed a 4-3 win. Chicago State will take on another Horizon League team prior to playing Detroit on Saturday as Wright State and the Cougars will match up at 2:00 p.m. in Fort Wayne.
The next contest for Detroit after this weekend will come March 13 as the Titans will face nearby rival Oakland in Bloomfield.
