Karoub Interview
DETROIT -- The Titans (2-7) saw
Chloe Karoub win a come-from-behind match at No. 3 singles but Detroit fell by a 6-1 score Sunday afternoon to the Toledo Rockets (7-6) at the Titan Tennis Complex on the campus of the University of Detroit Mercy.
Karoub, a sophomore, fell 6-3 in her first set and was facing an uphill battle to come back and take the victory. She fought her way back into the match though and was able to come back with a 6-4 win in the second set and force a 10-point tiebreaker to decide the match.
"It was very windy today and it was the first day playing outside so that was a little tough in the first set and I had a hard time with that," said Karoub on the win. "In the second set I worked it better and I knew I wanted to win and I could beat her so I did. Coach Pete also helped me calm down after my first set and get me back on track"
Karoub would win the tiebreaker 10-6 with the clinching point coming on a double fault as she took her third straight singles victory and fourth of the dual-match season to lead the team.
The outdoor setting proved to make the win a little more difficult as the heat from the sun combined with the wind created an extra challenge.
"It is definitely more exhausting playing outside especially when you're not used to it yet so I was lot more exhausted then when I play indoors so I had to get used to that. She was obviously exhausted too, it is just who can outwork the other player," added Karoub.
This match was originally scheduled for the Franklin Athletic Club in Southfield, but the match was moved outdoors and on campus due to the early spring-like conditions.
Toledo started the match capturing the doubles point winning both matches.
Detroit's next match will come this Wednesday as they will play at Wayne State. Match time is yet to be determined and will be announced on DetroitTitans.com prior to the contest.
