SOUTHFIELD, Mich. (1/19/13) - The University of Detroit Mercy men's tennis team dropped its home opener to Texas Christian, 5-1, Saturday morning at the Franklin Athletic Club.

Singles were played first and doubles were not played.

Freshman, Rafael Orantes won his match at sixth singles, 4-6, 6-4, 7-6 (10-5) to earn his first collegiate win. Chris Cheung had a match point opportunity in third singles but fell in a third set tiebreaker, 3-6, 7-6 (7-4), 11-9.

"We played well against a high-calibre team," said UDM men's tennis head coach Grant Asher. "It was great to see Rafael [Orantes] get his first win and Chris [Cheung] played really well too. We learned some things about ourselves that will help us in the future and against Toledo tomorrow."

The Titans will be in action again when they host Toledo at Franklin Athletic Club on Sunday at 6:00 p.m.
