COLUMBUS, Ohio (10/21/13) -- The University of Detroit Mercy men's tennis team completed its' short fall schedule with a solid showing at the 2013 ITA Midwest Regional, held at Ohio State over the weekend.
Sophomore
Patryk Koscielski went three for three to qualify for the men's single draw after a perfect run in the qualifier taking down opponents from Toledo, DePaul and Cleveland State.
The London, England native, defeated Toledo's Garrett Cona in straight sets (6-4, 6-1) and then followed the victory up with a three-set thriller against Tim Corwin of DePaul (6-4, 1-6, 6-4) before taking down fellow Horizon League rival Manuel Bellutti of Cleveland State in straight sets (6-3, 6-3).
Rafael Orantes defeated Maurizio Feoli of UIC (3-6, 6-1, 6-2) in his opening round of the ITA Midwest Qualifier before dropping his next match to Northern Illinois' Matt Lynch (6-1, 6-3).
In the doubles main draw, the duo of
Bobby Cawood and
Ismail Kadyrov took down Valparaiso's pair of Lucas Waak and Daniel Oakes (8-5) before falling to Ohio State's Hunter Callahan and Chris Diaz (8-3) in the second round.
After wrapping up the ITA Midwest Regional, UDM concluded its 2013 fall schedule. The schedule for the regular season will be released next month.
