Detroit Tennis Hosts Dayton in Southfield

DETROIT (2/20/13) – The Detroit tennis teams will host Dayton at the Franklin Athletic Club with the women's match being played on Friday and the men's to take place on Sunday. Both matches are set to begin at 7:00 p.m.
 
Dayton Women
The Flyers are 5-7 (0-1 A-10) after a 6-1 win over Chicago State on Feb. 10. They are led by freshman Katie Boeckman with a 10-2 singles mark on the season. Boeckman has been named Atlantic-10 Rookie of the Week twice and has won her last three matches. Junior Erin Filbrandt started the year 6-1, but she lost four of her last five matches to give her a 7-5 record. At first singles, Sammi Hornbarger started with five wins in her first six matches but has fallen off, dropping her last six contests.
 
In doubles action, Boeckman and Hornbarger lead the way with a 6-4 record in the second flight, winning four of their last six matches.

Detroit Women
UDM (1-3) blanked Oakland, 7-0 on Feb. 2, to earn its first dual match victory of the season. The Titans are led by newcomer Valery Kulikovskaya and junior Elena Strakhova. Kulikovskaya was named HL Player of the Week after wins against Oakland (2/2) at fifth singles and over Eastern Michigan (2/1) at fourth singles. Kulikovskaya has also teamed-up with Chloe Karoub for a 2-0 record at second doubles. Strakhova has won two matches at the No. 6 position and has won two doubles matches.
 
Dayton Men
The Dayton men's team is 2-5 and will face Atlantic-10 opponent, Butler, on Friday before coming to Southfield to face Detroit. UD lost its last two matches against Eastern Illinois (2/16) and IUPUI (2/17) after defeating Chicago State (2/10).
 
The Flyers are led by sophomores Aidan Kross and Josh Malyon. Both have a singles record of 5-2 with Kross' coming at first singles and Malyon's at third. Malyon has won four-straight matches going into the match against Butler while Kross has won four of his last five matches.

UD has not been as successful at doubles, winning only three matches. The pair of Colin Bernier and Malyon earned two of the tree victories for Dayton.
 
Detroit Men
The Titans (2-6) won their last two contests against Grand Valley (2/1) and Wayne State (2/2). Senior Alex Latosinsky was named Horizon League Player of the Week after a pair of wins at first singles, winning both matches in straight sets.
 
Freshman Rafael Orantes leads the team with four singles wins, with his last two victories coming in straight sets. The pair of Mike Basha and Latosinsky lead UDM with three wins at first doubles and Jay Joshi and Pablo Nunez are undefeated at second doubles with a pair of victories.
 
The Titans men's and women's teams will be in action again on March, 1 when the women welcome Wayne State at 6:00 p.m. and the men host Duquesne at 7:00 p.m., both at the Franklin Athletic Club.
