INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (2/5/13) -- University of Detroit Mercy senior Alex Latosinsky has been named the Horizon League Men's Tennis Athlete of the Week, while freshman Valeryia Kulikouskaya earned the Women's Tennis honors for the week of Jan. 28-Feb. 3. It is the second time that Latosinsky has earned the weekly honor and the first in Kulikouskaya's young career.

Latosinsky led UDM to its first two wins of the 2013 dual match season as the Titans took a pair of 6-1 matches against Grand Valley State (2/ 1) and Wayne State (2/2).

Latosinsky did not drop a set at first singles as he won his match against GVSU, 6-3, 6-4 and cruised to a 6-3, 6-0 win over Wayne State.

In doubles action, he worked with Mike Basha at No. 1 to record an 8-4 win over Grand Valley an 8-3 victory over WSU on Saturday.

Kulikouskaya earned her first win at fifth singles as well as tallying the Titans' only win in singles play against Eastern Michigan, taking her match, 6-3, 2-6, 6-0. She then moved up to fourth singles against Oakland and won that in straight sets, 6-4, 6-1.

She partnered with Chloe Karoub to win both her doubles matches at second doubles, posting an 8-4 victory over EMU on Friday and an 8-2 triumph over Oakland on Saturday.

The Detroit men will resume play on Sunday, Feb. 24, when the Titans welcome Dayton to the Franklin Athletic club at 7:00 p.m. The women will host Dayton on Friday, Feb. 22, at 7:00 p.m., also at the Franklin Athletic Club.
