BOCA RATON, Fla. (3/5/13) --The Detroit men's tennis team dropped the opening match of its spring break trip falling to nationally-ranked Lynn University, 5-2, on Tuesday.
The #3 Fighting Knights improved to 10-1 on the season as the Titans are now at 3-8 overall. LU is ranked third in the nation by the International Tennis Association (ITA) at the Division II level.
Pablo Nunez was victorious at fifth singles taking his singles match in straight sets, 7-5, 6-4. He then paired with
Jay Joshi to take their match at third doubles, 8-5.
Alex Latosinsky lost a hard fought match at second singles, falling in a third set tie-break to the 28th ranked player in the nation #28 Alessio Iannozzi. Latosinsky dropped his first set to Iannozzi, 6-3, but came back to win the second set, 6-4, to force a tiebreaker. Ianozzi took control of the third set to eventually beat Latosinsky, 10-5.
Mike Basha was also facing a ranked player matching up with #17 Vlad Cirla but Basha fell in two sets, 6-2, 6-4.
Freshman Rafael Orantes received a win by default at sixth singles to give Detroit its other point on the day.
UDM will stay in Florida to face Bentley University (Mass.) on Saturday at the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla. scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
