Match Results

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. (1/17/2014) -- The University of Detroit Mercy women's tennis team began 2014 with a pair of singles wins but could not overcome a strong Eastern Michigan team Friday evening as the Titans fell 5-2 in the dual-match opener at the Franklin Athletic Club in Southfield.

The evening began with UDM unable to grab a point in doubles. Sophomores Nino Sujashvili and Irina Slizovskaya played in the No. 1 pairing for Detroit falling 6-1.

On to the singles matches, the Titans saw some highlights as senior Elena Strakhova did her work at the No. 6 singles position winning in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2.

The other Titan point of the night and highlight came from the newest face on the team as freshman Anna Davydova battled to a tiebreaking win. After falling in the first set by a 6-2 score, she fought back for a 6-2 set win of her own bringing on a tiebreaker. A rally that eventually ended with Davydova on top by an 11-9 score gave Detroit a second singles victory.

UDM will look ahead to its next contest on Sunday at Michigan State with the match scheduled for 5:00 p.m. ET.
