SOUTHFIELD, Mich. (1/25/14) -- Detroit (1-2) swept the doubles matches and earned five singles victories en route to a 6-1 win over the Chicago State Cougars (0-1) Friday evening at the Franklin Athletic Club.
The evening started with doubles wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 spots that helped clinch the first point of the night for Detroit. The final doubles win at the No. 1 position helped Detroit roll into the singles portion of the evening on a win streak.
Sophomore
Nino Sujashvili (6-0, 6-2) at No. 2 singles, senior
Julia Fernandes (6-1, 6-2) at No. 3 singles, sophomore
Irina Slizovskaya (6-2, 6-1) at No. 4 singles, and sophomore Valery Kulikovskaya (6-2, 6-0) at No. 5 singles all had straight-set victories. Freshman
Viktoria Laskutova added another point for Detroit winning 7-6 (4), 4-6, 10-4 at No. 1 singles.
Detroit will look to win its second match in a row on Sunday as the Titans will play at Dayton in Ohio with match time set for 3:00 p.m.
