CHICAGO (2/23/2014) -- The University of Detroit Mercy women's tennis team saw its streak of five straight wins come to a close with a 4-3 loss to the Grand Canyon Antelopes out of Phoenix, Ariz. The Titans faced the Antelopes on neutral territory at Chicago State on Sunday.

In doubles play, Detroit (5-3) captured an 8-1 win at No. 3 doubles from sophomore Valery Kulikovskaya and freshman Anna Davydova to take one of the two victories needed for the doubles point. A pair of 8-4 losses at No. 1 and 2 doubles for the Titans meant that GCU (4-3) took the early 1-0 lead.

Singles saw the Titans earn points in the even number matches as sophomore Irina Slizovskaya won at No. 2 singles, Davydova won at No. 4 singles, and senior Elena Strakhova captured a victory at No. 6 singles. Slizovskaya was leading 5-4 before winning her match due to a GCU retirement, Davydova won her match in straight sets, 6-4, 7-5, and Strakhova also took a straight set win, 6-1, 6-1.

Detroit was unable to take another singles win and take the extra point needed for the win drawing its five-match winning streak to a close.

The next match for Detroit will come in Boca Raton, Fla. as Detroit will play two matches at Florida Atlantic. The Titans will play Florida Atlantic on March 2 and then play Davidson on March 4.
