Detroit Comes Up Short At No. 41 Michigan

It was another difficult match set up for the University of Detroit Mercy men's tennis team to help the squad get ready for the conference slate as the Titans were blanked by No. 41 Michigan, 7-0, on Saturday at the UM Varsity Tennis Center.

The loss gave Detroit (3-9) a split on the weekend as the red, white and blue took down Toledo yesterday on the road.

Michigan (8-5) started the contest with the doubles point as junior Jay Joshi and freshman Ismail Kadyrov fell, 8-2, at No. 2, while senior Bobby Cawood and freshman Patryk Koscielski were upended, 8-4, at No. 3.

In singles, Joshi gave it all he had in a 6-4, 6-2 loss to the 112th-ranked Alex Petrone at No. 2.

Cawood almost pulled out a set in a 6-2, 6-4 loss to Vlad Stefan at No. 1, while freshman Chance Conley dropped his bout, 6-3, 6-3, at No. 6.

The toughest out on the day for Detroit was Kadyrov who battled
Kevin Wong to a 7-5, 6-2 score.

The Titans will now have two weeks to get ready for their next match as Horizon League play will start with Detroit hosting Cleveland State on Saturday, March 29, at the Franklin Athletic Club in Southfield.
