SOUTHFIELD, Mich. (3/29/2014) --
The 2014 Horizon League tennis season got started for the Titans on Saturday and despite some tough matches, the University of Detroit Mercy men's tennis squad suffered a 7-0 setback to the defending champion Cleveland State Vikings at the Franklin Athletic Club in Southfield.

Detroit (3-10, 0-1 HL) could not muster a strong run for the doubles point as Cleveland State (10-6, 3-0 HL) – conference champions in five of the last six years – claimed the early strike with an 8-4 tally at No. 1 and an 8-1 score at No. 2.

In singles, freshman Patryk Koscielski was the lone Titan netter to take his opponent to a third set as he fell 6-2, 4-6, 6-1, at No. 3.

Senior Bobby Cawood nearly claimed the first set before dropping a 7-5, 6-1, affair at No. 1, while junior Jay Joshi put up a good fight in a 6-3, 6-4 decision at No. 2.

The Titans will continue their weekend homestand tomorrow as the red, white and blue meet Youngstown State in another Detroit tennis doubleheader at the Franklin Athletic Club. The women will start the action at 4:00 p.m., with the men's match-up slated to begin at 6:00.
