Box Score

DETROIT (4/19/2014) --
Junior Jay Joshi and freshman Chance Conley each came up with wins as the University of Detroit Mercy men's tennis team ended the 2014 duel campaign with a 5-2 loss to IUPUI on Senior Day on Saturday at the Titan Tennis Courts on the James K. Campbell Complex.

Prior to the match, Detroit recognized its lone senior in Bobby Cawood, a one-year transfer who provided great leadership to a squad that was composed of six underclassmen and four true freshmen out of its eight-man roster.

The Titans (3-16, 0-6 HL) fought extremely hard in their final match and they looked like they would take the early lead, but IUPUI (6-19) was able to edge UDM in two doubles bouts. At the top spot, sophomore Rafael Orantes and Conley fell 8-7 (4), while at No. 3, freshman Patryk Koscielski and Cawood were upended, 8-7 (6).

Joshi was able to win his singles for the second-straight day as he won at No. 4, 7-5, 6-0, for his fourth win of the year.

Conley got behind in his match at No. 6, but was able to rebound with a 2-6, 6-4, 6-2 victory for his third win of the season.

Detroit nearly had another win but Orantes was ousted, 6-0, 6-7 (4), 10-8, at No. 3.

The Titans season came to an end as they were already eliminated from the Horizon League Championship as only the top six teams in the conference advance.

Orantes and Koscielski tied for the team lead with 11 singles wins in 2014 and Koscielski had the most overall triumphs at 17.
