Cawood Wins At Top Singles As Titans Tripped Up By Wright State

MIAMISBURG, Ohio (4/5/2014) --
Senior Bobby Cawood was a winner at top singles, but the University of Detroit Mercy men's tennis team just could not string along a few more wins as the Titans were defeated by Wright State, 5-1, on Saturday night at the South Regency Tennis Center.
 
Cawood moved to 2-1 in the Horizon League with a come-from-behind 4-6, 7-5, 6-2, victory over Dan Gilbert at No. 1 singles.
 
Freshman Ismail Kadyrov was ahead in his match, 7-6 (9-7), 4-1, at No. 5 when it was called.
 
Freshman Chance Conley was edged, 6-4, 3-6, 10-2, at No. 6, while freshman Patryk Koscielski fell at No. 3, 6-4, 7-5.
 
In doubles, the Titans (3-12, 0-3 HL) came close to a triumph at No. 2 as Kadyrov and junior Jay Joshi led 7-5 when the Raiders (10-10, 4-1 HL) clinched the doubles point.
 
The Titans have four matches left in their regular season with three at home beginning with Valparaiso on Friday. The match is part of a Titan doubleheader with the women's team taking on UIC at the Franklin Athletic Club in Southfield and all the action starts at 8:00 p.m.
