SOUTH BEND, Ind. (1/17/2015) -- Playing its highest ranked opponent in school history, the University of Detroit Mercy women's tennis team began the 2015 duel season with a 7-0 setback to No. 20 Notre Dame on Saturday evening at the Eck Tennis Pavilion.
 
The Titans (0-1) won their only match on the day at No. 3 doubles against the Fighting Irish squad as sophomores Anna Davydova and Nynke Van Der Goot tallied a 6-4 decision over Molly O'Koniewski and Katherine White.
 
Detroit almost came away with another win in doubles as juniors Valeryia Kulikovskaya and Irina Slizovskaya dropped a 6-4 bout to Jane Fennelly and Quinn Gleason.
 
In singles, UDM's best shot at a win was at No. 5 as sophomore Viktoria Laskutova took Fennelly to three sets before losing a heartbreaker, 6-2, 4-6, 10-8.
 
Van Der Goot lost a 6-2, 604 affair at No. 6 to O'Koniewski, while freshman Sasha Nionova was upended, 6-0, 6-2, by Monica Robinson in her Titan debut.
 
The red, white and blue will be right back in action tomorrow as the Titans visit Ball State. The match will begin at 2:00 p.m., at the Muncie YMCA Tennis Center.
