Sarah Thompson shot a pair of scores in the 70's and the University of Detroit Mercy women's golf team stands in seventh place after the first two rounds of the Rocket Classic on Monday.
The 54-hole tournament is being held at the Par 72, 7,255-yard Catawba Island Club in Port Clinton, Ohio.
Detroit started the event with a 332 in round one, but tallied a 317 in the afternoon for a 649 scorecard.
Thompson posted a 156 after recording a 5-over 77 on the opening 18 and a 79 in the second round. She is in 16th place just two strokes out of the top 10 and five off the top five.
She got off to a strong start knocking in 13 pars in round one and added another 10 pars with a birdie in round two. Her 23 pars is also tied for the sixth-most in the field.
Sophomore
Brooke Sharpe is tied for 30th with a 162 (83-79). She had a team-high four birdies on the day – tied for the ninth most among the competitors - to go with 16 pars.
Freshman
Erica Heath had the biggest improvement from one round to the next carding an 88 to begin things before finishing with a 5-over 77. She is currently tied for 41st with a 165, while junior
Sarah Montone shares 44th with a 166 (84-82).
