HOMEWOOD, Ill. (2/27/2015) -- The University of Detroit Mercy women's tennis team had a couple of weeks off and looked as fresh as can be as the Titans demolished Northern Kentucky, 6-0, on Friday night at the H-F Racquet Club.
Due to an early match schedule for Northern Kentucky (1-5) tomorrow, the Titans (4-5) and Norse only played singles.
Detroit won five of the six singles matches in straight-set sweeps with only No. 6 going to a third set. It turned out to be the most thrilling match on the night as sophomore
Nynke Van Der Goot came from behind to surge past Nicole Soutar, 3-6, 7-6 (7-4), 1-0 (11-9).
Freshman
Sasha Nionova had to do some extra week in a 6-2, 7-6 (4) victory at No. 1 over Hailey Shanahan.
Junior
Irina Slizovskaya had no problem at No. 2 winning 6-1, 6-3, while junior
Valeryia Kulikovskaya claimed No. 3, 6-3, 5-0 (retired). Sophomore
Anna Davydova posted a 6-2, 6-3 tally in the fourth spot and sophomore
Viktoria Laskutova recorded a 6-4, 6-1 triumph in the fifth position.
The Titans will continue a long weekend of tennis that has them playing three-straight days when they face Northern Iowa on Saturday. That match is scheduled for 3:00 p.m., at H-F Racquet Club.
