SOUTHFIELD, Mich. (2/6/2015) -- Trailing after the doubles point, the University of Detroit Mercy women's tennis team was able to stage a comeback as the Titans downed Toledo, 4-3, on Friday night at the Franklin Athletic Club.
The win moved Detroit to 3-4 on the season, while the Rockets dropped to 2-3. It was also just the third win all-time against Toledo in 19 career meetings.
UDM was down 1-0 heading into singles as the only doubles tandem to top UT was sophomore
Viktoria Laskutova and freshman
Sasha Nionova as they defeated Sidnay Huck and Mackenzie Bowman, 7-5, at No. 3.
Detroit got it together in singles winning the first three completed matches.
Junior
Irina Slizovskaya started the rally with a 6-2, 6-0, ledger at No. 2 and that was followed by junior
Valeryia Kulikovskaya's dominating 6-1, 6-3, win at No. 3. Another straight-set victory came after that as sophomore
Anna Davydova won her sixth-straight match with a 6-3, 6-3 tally at the fourth position.
Toledo got back in the match with a win at No. 1, but sophomore
Nynke Van Der Goot clinched the team victory with a 6-3, 4-6, 6-3, score at No. 6. It was the second time this season that Van Der Goot tallied the winning fourth point as she won the final match at Eastern Michigan.
Detroit will get right back on the courts tomorrow as the Titans head to East Lansing to face No. 75 Michigan State. The match will begin at 4:00 p.m., at the MSU Indoor Tennis Facility.
