Titans Tripped Up By Another Ranked Opponent

EAST LANSING, Mich. (2/7/2015) --
We are just three weeks into the tennis team and the Titans have already played three nationally ranked opponents as the University of Detroit Mercy women's tennis team lost a 7-0 decision at No. 75 Michigan State on Saturday.
 
It was a tough match for the Titans (3-5) who have already played No. 20 Notre Dame and No. 35 Tennessee this year.
 
The Titans dropped the doubles point with losses at No. 2 and No. 3.
 
In singles, UDM battled the mighty Spartans, taking the netters to three sets at No. 3 and No. 6.
 
In third singles, junior Valeryia Kulikovskaya was upended, 6-4, 3-6, 10-7, as MSU rallied late to win the match. At No. 6, sophomore Viktoria Laskutova won her first set, but could not get the next one falling 2-6, 7-6 (4), 10-6.
 
Freshman Sasha Nionova put up a good fight at No. 2, 6-3, 6-4, while sophomore Nynke Van Der Goot was downed, 6-1, 6-4, at No. 5.
 
Detroit will have a few weeks off before its next competition with a few matches in the Windy City. UDM will meet Northern Kentucky on Feb. 27, Northern Iowa on Feb. 28 and Chicago State on Mar. 1, all at the H-F Racquet Club in Homewood, Ill.
