Titans Sweep Milwaukee To Stay Perfect In Conference Play

Box Score

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. (3/22/2015) --
For the third-straight match, the Titans did not give up a point as the University of Detroit Mercy women's tennis team cruised past the defending regular season Horizon League champion Milwaukee Panthers, 4-0, on Sunday night at the Franklin Athletic Club.

The win extended the Titans hot streak to four straight as they moved to 10-7 on the season and 2-0 in league play. It was also the third-straight win by way of a sweep following 7-0 decisions over Mount St. Mary's and Green Bay. Milwaukee fell to 4-11 overall and 2-1 in the conference.

Detroit won two of the three completed matches in doubles to take the early point. Junior Nino Sujashvili and sophomore Viktoria Laskutova won at No. 2, 6-3, while junior Valeryia Kulikovskaya and sophomore Nynke Van Der Goot garnered a 6-4 triumph at No. 3.

In singles, freshman Sasha Nionova posted the clinching fourth point as she ousted Chase Bailey, 6-3, 6-0, at the top spot, moving her individual winning streak to four straight.

Sophomore Anna Davydova had no trouble at No. 4 posting a 6-2, 6-0 score over Alysa Straub, her sixth-straight win and 19th on the season. She also now has 13 victories in dual play, the most in the Horizon League.

The other win was tallied by Laskutova, who pushed her winning streak to three in a row with a 6-1, 6-3, score over Christina Colarossi at No. 5.

Detroit will now hit the road for a pair of vital conferences matches in Ohio next week as the red, white and blue will battle Cleveland State on Saturday, March 28, and defending HL tournament champions Youngstown State on Sunday, March 29.  Both of those programs were picked to finish in the top two in the league's preseason poll.
