ORLANDO, Fla. (3/6/2015) -- What a way for the University of Detroit Mercy women's tennis team to end its spring break trip as the Titans jumped all over Mount St. Mary's early en route to a 7-0 sweep over the Mountaineers on Friday morning.
The win gave the Titans (8-7) a split in its four-match competition in the Sunshine State as the red, white and blue won all seven contested matches on the day over The Mount (5-4).
In doubles, junior
Nino Sujashvili and sophomore
Viktoria Laskutova crushed their opponent, 6-0, in the third position. Junior
Irina Slizovskaya and sophomore
Anna Davydova posted a 6-1 tally at top doubles and junior
Valeryia Kulikovskaya and sophomore
Nynke Van Der Goot cruised to a 6-2 triumph at No. 2.
Detroit won all the singles matches in straight sets as freshman
Sasha Nionova earned a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 1 over Erin Benefiel.
Kulikovskaya downed Kelly Smith at No. 2, 6-4, 6-1, while Slizovskaya ran past Sruthi Kamprath, 6-0, 6-3, in the third spot.
Davydova defeated Cassandra Powell at No. 4, 6-4, 6-2, while Laskutova tallied a win over Danielle Nguyen, 6-3, 6-4, at No. 5 and Van Der Goot ousted Jennifer Smith at sixth, 6-1, 6-2.
Detroit will now have a couple of weeks off as it gets ready for the Horizon League slate, starting with Green Bay on Saturday, March 21, and Milwaukee on Sunday, March 22, with both of those matches played at the Franklin Athletic Club in Southfield.
