The match is set to begin at 5:30 p.m. from the Eck Tennis Pavillion in Notre Dame, Ind. The Fighting Irish sports information staff will provide live video and stat streaming via the links atop this page.
The Titans return six players from last season, including senior
Rafael Orantes, juniors
Kacper Stelmaszak,
Chance Conley,
Ismail Kadyrov,
Patryk Koscielski and sophomore
Nathan Ponton. The freshman class of
Griffin Mertz,
Nicholas Solarewicz and
Adam Zychowicz round out the roster for Detroit.
Koscielski led the team with 13 singles victories in 2014-15, followed by Stelmaszak and Ponton with 10 apiece. Koscielski also led the squad with 10 doubles victories last season. Ponton recorded eight doubles wins, while Conley picked up seven.
Detroit hopes to build upon a strong fall that saw the team go 16-13 in singles. Conley, Orantes and Ponton each went 2-1 individually, while promising newcomers Zychowicz, Solarewicz and Mertz combined to go 8-2 in singles fall action.
Notre Dame poses a major threat to the Titans with a wealth of experience up and down the lineup. The 37
th-ranked Fighting Irish went 14-12 last season and had brief stays in both the Atlantic Coast Conference and NCAA Championships, but return five players who have been ranked in the top 10 nationally in either singles or doubles at points in their career.
Leading the Irish is senior Quentin Monaghan, who compiled a 20-3 record last season and made a deep run in the NCAA Singles Championship to earn a No. 7 ranking. Monaghan was recently named an All-American after his NCAA semifinals appearance in 2015.
Following Saturday's match, Detroit turns its attention to the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater for a match on Saturday, Jan. 23 at 3 p.m. in Dekalb, Ill.
